As a high performing local authority, Leicestershire County Council understands the importance of supporting our communities and businesses through excellent public services, not least amenity services which affect the majority of citizens.

We are currently recruiting a new Director of Environment and Transport who will manage a wide portfolio including highways, transportation, recycling and waste disposal.

This includes the management and maintenance of 2,575 miles of roads across the county, numerous bypasses and town centre developments, waste initiatives and park and ride schemes.

Much of our strategic work is successfully undertaken working with sub-regional and regional partners and agencies.

The department has a strong reputation, but given the continuing financial challenges facing the authority members and officers are working together to develop new ways of delivering efficient and effective services.

In addition, a relentless focus on the needs of the customer is crucial for our continued success.

Candidates will need to have senior experience of managing one or more of the services in this portfolio but we are not looking for a particular professional background. What is more important is the ability to offer strategic leadership, bring innovation, focus on efficiencies, and operate successfully in a large and complex political organisation.

For more information please view: or talk to our advising consultants Luke Judd (0113 205 6077) or Tim Hills (0113 205 6085).

Closing date: 25 August 2017.
